The sign above the entrance to the middle school reads “Future Leaders of America.” Keystone Academy, a team of passionate educators, responds to this incredible challenge each day with two important responsibilities: academic achievement and personal development. Our teachers have a deep understanding of the students entrusted to their care. They recognize their strengths as well as their fragility. They demonstrate care and respect for their students by building genuine connections.
Our 6th through 8th grade students are challenged with high academic expectations. Students in middle school receive 90 minutes of language arts and math instruction each day. They also receive 90 minutes of science and social studies instruction rotating on a weekly basis.
Students choose quarterly specials classes consisting of: a literature class, Band, Advanced Art, Show Choir, Physical Education, and technology applications. In addition, students also select one elective each quarter.
Extra-curricular activities include Student Council, National Junior Honor Society, interscholastic athletics, tutoring, mentoring, dances, and year-end educational trips such as camp for 6th graders, Mackinac Island for 7th graders, and Washington D.C. for 8th graders.
The staff and administration realize the importance of helping students prepare for high school and college. In the fall, representatives from the public and private high schools in the area conduct an information night to assist 8th graders and their parents in planning for their future.
